What is Bank PO

A PO or a Probationary Officer is basically an Assistant Manager of Scale I in a bank. He is a Junior Manager of Grade I scale and hence called Scale I Officer. After the selection criteria is completed, a Probationary Officer has to go through an intensive training program at Institute of Banking Management where they are trained. The probation period of a PO may last for 2 years. This again differs from bank to bank.

PO i.e Probationary Officer is post for hiring candidates in bank job as a Scale I officer usually with a designation of Assistant Manager. Candidates will write an exam to get selected. Lakhs of student write IBPS exams but only few manage to pass and get the desired Asst Manager position in a Bank. Once selected, the candidates are required to undergo a training till a max of 2 years. This period is called probation period.
Sometimes there will be lateral hiring done by banks for a more experienced candidates for specialized posts.

Bank PO Roles and Responsibilities

Once the probation period is completed, the candidates are given specialized job posting in branch where there is an open position in a place anywhere in India. PO’s must be ready to work in any such given places. Usually there will be a target given to PO’s which makes these position less lucrative when compared to other Govt Jobs. But PO candidates are also assured of a Job security which makes the candidates to keep Bank PO as an option.
